Cathodic protection

Effective and efficient solutions are available for your traditional and steel-reinforced concrete cathodic protection projects.

Explore the application.

Cathodic protection, also referred to as corrosion prevention, is a method used to prevent metal structures, from corroding or rusting. Whether in pipelines, offshore platforms, storage tanks, bridges, or historical monuments, the deterioration of metal due to environmental factors such as moisture, salt, and oxygen exposure poses a significant threat to infrastructure integrity.

To mitigate corrosion, industries rely on cathodic protection (CP), a proven electrochemical method that prevents metal structures from corroding. To prevent corrosion, De Nora, manufactures mixed metal oxide (MMO) anodes (also known as insoluble anodes), which are critical to CP systems.

De Nora is a pioneer in impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) solutions, producing durable MMO anodes such as the LIDA® and ELGARD® brands. LIDA anodes are designed and manufactured for traditional cathodic protection, and ELGARD anodes for steel-reinforced concrete cathodic protection.

Unlike traditional soluble anodes that degrade over time, De Nora’s MMO anodes are engineered to be highly efficient and resistant to corrosion, making them ideal for long-term installations in harsh environments.

Mixed metal oxide technology was developed in the 1980’s. More than 3000 square kilometers (more than 500,000 anodes) of LIDA® anodes have been installed in over 30 countries worldwide in various applications, such as soil, water, concrete, and sand.

De Nora takes pride in meeting or exceeding the global NACE (AMPP) standards for MMO anodes.  We do not compromise our quality, and we continue to perform Accelerated Life Tests (ALT) to make sure we meet or exceed industry standards.  Additionally, you benefit from:

High-quality & durable products.

LIDA and ELGARD anodes are designed to outperform traditional soluble or sacrificial anodes.

De Nora, manufactures mixed metal oxide (MMO) anodes (also known as insoluble anodes), which are critical to CP systems. De Nora MMO anodes use grade 1 or grade 2 titanium for the substrate.
Additionally, these anodes have been tested by independent labs to verify and ensure that they meet or exceed the performance criteria per NACE standards.

Flexibility in geometries & install environments.

De Nora cathodic protection anodes are available in many different geometries such as mesh, rod, tube, grid, and wire. Having many available geometries means that are designed to accommodate unique applications and specific project needs.
Our corrosion prevention solutions are appropriate for installation in numerous environmental settings including, but not limited to soil, sand, concrete and water.

Efficient solutions mean cost savings.

Insoluble anodes, due to their long product life cycle, require less maintenance and replacement when compared to soluble anodes for cathodic protection.
Less maintenance translates to cost savings.
Additionally, De Nora’s mixed metal oxide anodes are more lightweight compared to lead anodes, making them easier to transport, handle and install.
Energy efficiency is achieved through uniform current distributions, high-density currents, and adjustable current output depending on the product and application.
