De Nora and Maffei Sarda Silicati announce the completion of the Dragonfly® Plant for the Production of Green Hydrogen in Sardinia

08/05/2026 - 11.30 AM

Milan, August 5, 2026 – Industrie De Nora, an Italian multinational listed on Euronext Milan specializing in electrochemistry, water treatment systems, and sustainable solutions, and Maffei Sarda Silicati, a company active in the extraction, processing, and marketing of raw materials for the ceramics and glass sectors, announce the completion of the installation, testing, and commissioning of the 1 MW Dragonfly® electrolyzer at the production site in Florinas (Sassari), Sardinia.

The project, supported as part of energy transition initiatives and funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), has successfully reached one of its key milestones with the handover of the plant following the issuance of the certificate of installation and testing.

The Dragonfly® electrolyzer will enable the production of up to 50 metric tons of green hydrogen per year for the site’s industrial operations, contributing to the PNRR’s objectives of decarbonizing production processes, revitalizing brownfield sites, and promoting innovative technologies for the energy transition of the Italian industrial sector.

The completion of the plant’s delivery marks the end of the project’s scope of work and represents the result of close collaboration between the teams at De Nora and Maffei Sarda Silicati, who worked jointly with technical advisor Make Energy to meet the project’s particularly challenging timeline and the objectives set forth in the funding program.

The completion of the installation and functional testing of the 1 MW Dragonfly® electrolyzer for the Maffei Sarda Silicati project represents a significant achievement for our team and for the development of green hydrogen in Italy,” stated Christian Urgeghe, Chief Technology Officer at De Nora. “We are particularly pleased with the work carried out together with Maffei Sarda Silicati, which demonstrates the value of collaboration among industrial partners in carrying out strategic and innovative initiatives for the energy transition while meeting deadlines, technical requirements, and high-quality standards.”

Urgeghe added: “The project also represents a significant milestone in the industrial development path that De Nora is pursuing as part of the Hy2Tech IPCEI and the initiatives supported by the PNRR for the hydrogen supply chain. The electrolyzer built for Maffei Sarda Silicati is among the first systems designed, assembled, and tested at De Nora’s new Gigafactory in Cernusco sul Naviglio—an achievement that attests to the site’s gradual ramp-up and its role in developing solutions for green hydrogen production.”

Pier Paolo Pinna (Chief Operating Officer) of Maffei Sarda Silicati stated: “This initiative confirms the two companies’ shared commitment to promoting industrial innovation and contributing to the development of an increasingly robust and competitive national hydrogen ecosystem. The construction of the plant represents a concrete step forward in the energy transition we have undertaken. We strongly believe that green hydrogen can play a fundamental role in the industrial processes of the future, contributing significantly to reducing emissions and building a more sustainable and efficient energy system.”
