Cooling Water Treatment for Food and Beverage

When it comes to cooling water treatment, microbial control is often the prime mission. However, side-stream filtration is a powerful tool that can help you increase efficiency and further reduce water usage, and De Nora’s ClorTec and MIOX systems can help you achieve these goals.

Disinfection is one of the three key components of a cooling water treatment program and is used to minimize bacteria in cooling water. Disinfection is needed to protect the health of plant workers and to ensure the efficient and long-lasting operation of cooling equipment. Cooling towers have the potential to harbor pathogenic bacteria such as Legionella which, if untreated, can sicken plant workers. Additionally, bacteria populations in cooling towers can form biofilms on equipment surfaces, which can greatly reduce the cooling efficiency of the equipment and cause equipment damage in the form of microbially-induced corrosion.

ClorTec systems generate low-strength (0.8%) sodium hypochlorite on-site from salt for safe, reliable and cost-effective water treatment. The latest generation ClorTec systems deliver up to 15% operating cost savings over previous designs while continuing the tradition of reliability and durability our partners have come to expect from De Nora.

MIOX on-site mixed oxidant generators produce an enhanced oxidant chemistry using three common consumables: water, salt and power. This on-site generator produces chlorine-based solutions when sodium chloride brine (salt and water) is passed through an electrolytic cell. The chlorine-based solution has all the oxidant power of sodium hypochlorite plus additional benefits such as biofilm removal.

Water Reuse and Wastewater Treatment for Food and Beverage

De Nora’s Capital Controls Ozone and Capital Controls UV systems are powerful tools in water reuse and wastewater treatment for food and beverage.

Capital Controls Ozone systems are designed to provide safe, reliable and cost-effective water treatment. Ozone is a powerful oxidant that can be used to treat water and wastewater in a variety of applications, including disinfection, oxidation and color removal. Capital Controls Ozone systems are designed to generate ozone on-site, which eliminates the need and safety risk of delivering and storing expensive chemicals.

Capital Controls UV systems play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and purity of water used in various processes. UV light disrupts the DNA of microorganisms, preventing their ability to reproduce and rendering them inactive. This process is a reliable means of eliminating bacteria, viruses and other pathogens from water without the use of chemicals, making it a clean and sustainable solution. The UV disinfection process provides an additional layer of control against harmful microorganisms, contributing to the overall quality control of the final products.

By using Capital Controls Ozone and Capital Controls UV systems, you can ensure superior microbial control and performance, while reducing water usage and increasing your system performance and cycles of concentration.

Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Pasteurizers for Food and Beverage

Precision in water treatment for food and beverage is paramount, especially for critical applications like Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems and pasteurizers. De Nora delivers tailored solutions designed to ensure the utmost efficiency and reliability in these vital processes.

Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems, integral to maintaining hygiene in production facilities, rely on De Nora's innovative water treatment technologies, including the advanced capabilities of MIOX and Capital Control Chlorine Dioxide. Our solutions are engineered to meet the rigorous demands of CIP, facilitating optimal cleanliness and sanitation. MIOX introduces an approach with on-site generation of a 0.45% FAC hypochlorite-based Mixed Oxidant Solution, ensuring microbial control and system performance. Complementing this, Capital Control Chlorine Dioxide provides an effective solution for disinfection, contributing to a safer and more sustainable water treatment process.

In the pasteurization process, where the safety and quality of food and beverage products are non-negotiable, De Nora's solutions, including MIOX and Capital Control Chlorine Dioxide, play pivotal roles. Our water treatment technologies contribute to the reliability of pasteurizers, ensuring effective heat treatment to eliminate harmful microorganisms. MIOX's on-site generation and Capital Control Chlorine Dioxide's efficiency add layers of protection, safeguarding consumer health and upholding the integrity of the final products.

Water Treatment with Coastal Installation for Food and Beverage

For water treatment for food and beverage coastal installations, De Nora stands out with tailored, leading-edge solutions. Our SEACLOR electrochlorination system revolutionizes treatment processes where seawater is used as cooling water. Specifically designed for coastal applications, this solution brings efficiency and sustainability to the forefront.

SEACLOR systems convert the salt already present in seawater into hypochlorite, making them ideal for coastal installations and other locations leveraging seawater. This innovative approach ensures the reliable generation of chlorine on-site, providing an effective solution for microbial control in cooling water systems.

De Nora's commitment to excellence in seawater electrochlorination supports the food and beverage industry's pursuit of operational efficiency, setting the stage for a sustainable future in water treatment.
