Cooling Water Treatment for Food and Beverage
When it comes to cooling water treatment, microbial control is often the prime mission. However, side-stream filtration is a powerful tool that can help you increase efficiency and further reduce water usage, and De Nora’s ClorTec and MIOX systems can help you achieve these goals.
Disinfection is one of the three key components of a cooling water treatment program and is used to minimize bacteria in cooling water. Disinfection is needed to protect the health of plant workers and to ensure the efficient and long-lasting operation of cooling equipment. Cooling towers have the potential to harbor pathogenic bacteria such as Legionella which, if untreated, can sicken plant workers. Additionally, bacteria populations in cooling towers can form biofilms on equipment surfaces, which can greatly reduce the cooling efficiency of the equipment and cause equipment damage in the form of microbially-induced corrosion.
ClorTec systems generate low-strength (0.8%) sodium hypochlorite on-site from salt for safe, reliable and cost-effective water treatment. The latest generation ClorTec systems deliver up to 15% operating cost savings over previous designs while continuing the tradition of reliability and durability our partners have come to expect from De Nora.
MIOX on-site mixed oxidant generators produce an enhanced oxidant chemistry using three common consumables: water, salt and power. This on-site generator produces chlorine-based solutions when sodium chloride brine (salt and water) is passed through an electrolytic cell. The chlorine-based solution has all the oxidant power of sodium hypochlorite plus additional benefits such as biofilm removal.
