MIOX® on-site mixed oxidant generators produce an enhanced oxidant chemistry using three common consumables: water, salt, and power. This on-site generator (OSG) produces chlorine-based solutions when sodium chloride brine (salt + water) is passed through an electrolytic cell. This process converts the chloride ions present in the solution to mixed oxidant solution, which is primarily sodium hypochlorite with additional treatment benefits of other chlor-oxygen species.
MIOX®, Mixed Oxidant Generators
For 30+ years the MIOX name has been the go-to solution in reliable and cost-effective on-site mixed oxidant generators for a variety of water treatment applications. The chlorine-based solution has all the oxidant power of sodium hypochlorite with additional benefits including biofilm removal, Disinfection Byproduct (DBP) reduction, improved taste and odor, and improved water clarification.

Why MIOX?
Advanced treatment capabilities of MIOX generators can include biofilm removal, disinfection byproduct (DBP) reduction, improved taste and odor, and improved water clarification. Customers also report the ability to maintain more consistent control of distribution residuals with lower applied chemical doses.
- Small footprint, easy to install and operate with minimal maintenance hours required including optional self-cleaning on some models.
- Remote monitoring and control capability helps ensure optimal operation and reduced time on-site.
- Modular electrolytic cells allow for system expansion in the same footprint.
- Systems optimized for ease of use, reliability, and performance.
- Pre-assembled and factory tested package ensures simple installation and small footprint.
The on-site generation of chlorine-based chemistries provides a safe, economical, and effective solution for the treatment of water. For a variety of applications from drinking water treatment to microbiological control in cooling towers, on-site generation lets you generate the chemistry you need when you need it. This powerful and highly effective oxidant solution is generated without creating or transporting hazardous chemicals, ensuring the safety of personnel and the surrounding community.

Electrochemical Generation of Mixed Oxidant Solution (MOS)
MOS is an oxidant solution that is produced through the electrochemical process. OSG equipment producing MOS is optimized for the highest levels of bacteria inactivation efficacy through proprietary cell design, control of power, and cell geometry.
MOS is highly effective at controlling microbial populations, biofouling, and biofilm formation in water treatment applications across multiple applications and industries. Numerous laboratory studies and customer experiences prove that MOS is a much more effective biocide than chlorine alone, a property that is a result of the synergistic antimicrobial action of the multiple oxidants contained within MOS - predominantly sodium hypochlorite with other chlor-oxygen species.
Benefits of MOS
- Faster and more thorough microbiological inactivation (as much as 100 times more effective than chlorine at same FAC dose and application pH).
- Superior biofilm removal.
- Elimination of Legionella counts.
- Enhanced micro flocculation reducing coagulant demand by up to 40%.
- Decreased dosing to achieve the same disinfection outcome.
- Longer residual carry in distribution systems with longer detention time.
- Reduction in disinfection byproduct (DBP) formation.
- Elimination of chloramine boosters.
- Improves filter runs.
- Lowers final turbidity.
